Aug 21: Vigil in Honor of David Ruggles

Registration is closed for this event

Please join us onĀ Thursday August 21 at 11AM for a Vigil to Honor David Ruggles. David Ruggles was a free Black New Yorker whose work through the 'New York Committee of Vigilance' brings together the histories of Abolition, the Fugitive Slave Act and Rikers Island.

We'll meet at the site of the David Ruggles' Boarding House in lower Manhattan (319 Church Street) and walk to the Manhattan Criminal Court Building.

This event is part of a series organized by faith partners of the Campaign to Close Rikers, connecting Rikers Island with the legacy of slavery and freedom in New York.
