Thursday January 26th - GET RIKERS CLOSED Rally

Registration is closed for this event
Join us ahead of the mayor's state of the city address to remind him that RIKERS MUST CLOSE.

After supporting the closure of Rikers when he sought election, Mayor Adams recently suggested that the City Council should "reassess" the plan. Join us ahead of his State of the City address to say NO! New Yorkers believe in justice and human rights. We will not accept reckless efforts to preserve mass incarceration on Torture Island (and in doing so, stall the Renewable Rikers plan).

NYC jails have killed 19 people on his watch, but the mayor has escalated his attacks on the plan to close Rikers, and refused to take necessary action to invest in prevention, reduce incarceration, close the jails on Rikers, and protect the human rights of incarcerated people. Mayor Adams pledged he would invest "upstream" to "close the pipelines that feed Rikers" - now is the time to get it done.

*The buses we reserved for this event are full, with a wait list for each. You can also travel to the rally by taking the 7 train of LIRR to Mets - Willets Point and walk about 15 minutes to the rally area near the Queens Theater. If you are driving, there is parking nearby next to the Queens Museum.*
